A New Era for Women’s Health
We’re delighted to announce that our pharmacies are participating in the new Free Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Scheme launched by the HSE. From June 1st, 2025, women in Ireland will have access to HRT treatments at no cost — a major step forward in addressing menopause-related care and promoting better long-term health.
This scheme is part of a wider government initiative to improve women’s healthcare, which also includes free contraception and public fertility services.
What Is HRT?
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is used to relieve symptoms of menopause by replacing hormones that the body no longer produces.
HRT can help manage symptoms like hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, and vaginal dryness, and it can also protect against osteoporosis.
What’s Included in the Free HRT Scheme?
All prescribed HRT medications are now fully covered, including:
There are no prescription charges and no co-payments.
Please note: While all eligible HRT products are covered under the scheme, there are ongoing nationwide shortages in HRT medications, and availability may vary.
We will do our best to source your treatment, but we appreciate your patience and understanding as supply issues continue to impact pharmacies across Ireland.
Who Is Eligible?
The scheme is open to:
✅ Women with a Medical Card (GMS)
✅ Women with a Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) card
📌 Anyone with a PPS number who does not have a GMS card can apply for a free DPS card.
How Do I Apply?
If you already have a GMS or DPS card, you're automatically eligible — no further action is needed.
If you don’t, here’s what to do:

Apply online (you can also apply by post or email)
Bring your new DPS card when collecting your HRT
You must also have a valid prescription from your doctor for HRT medications.
